En esta entrada describir\u00e9 la zona central del tablero. Esto es: el mapa, su estructuras, sus omisiones y la optimizaci\u00f3n del mismo a lo largo de las iteraciones que va sufriendo a medida que desarrollo el juego. Por tanto:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>El cuerpo principal del juego est\u00e1 TERMINADO &#8211; salvo que aparezca algo que obligue a revisar alg\u00fan aspecto.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Las mec\u00e1nicas son robustas pero est\u00e1n ABIERTAS a ser pulidas seg\u00fan se va probando el juego y encontrando lagunas o situaciones que puedan provocar desequilibrios indeseados.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Los dise\u00f1os NO SON DEFINITIVOS as\u00ed que ninguna de las im\u00e1genes que ver\u00e1s debajo est\u00e1 en su versi\u00f3n final. Todos los componentes tendr\u00e1n un dise\u00f1o much\u00edsimo mejor de lo que ver\u00e1s en estos diarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>En cuanto al idioma, todo lo que est\u00e1 escrito en castellano ser\u00e1 TOTALMENTE traducido al ingl\u00e9s para la versi\u00f3n final, as\u00ed que adem\u00e1s de la versi\u00f3n en castellano, podr\u00e9is contar con una versi\u00f3n completa del juego en ingl\u00e9s (reglas, componentes, cartas, mapa\u2026 \u00a1todo!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dicho esto, si te apetece conocer m\u00e1s sobre el escenario donde se juega Guerrilleros, \u00a1<strong>sigue leyendo<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>El tablero de Guerrilleros<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entre otras muchas cosas, elaborar un buen tablero para un juego es una tarea ardua y en la que no me considero especialmente bueno. El dise\u00f1o que muestro debajo es provisional y claramente mejorable. Sin embargo, para los prop\u00f3sitos de esta (larga) etapa de desarrollo y testeo del juego, me parece que es suficientemente <strong>funcional <\/strong>ya que contiene todo lo imprescindible. Tambi\u00e9n a\u00f1ado que no tengo ninguna duda de que, para su dise\u00f1o final, un buen dise\u00f1ador gr\u00e1fico lo mejorar\u00e1 varios \u00f3rdenes de magnitud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En esta versi\u00f3n (la n\u00famero 4.0 desde su boceto m\u00e1s inicial, lejos del que capt\u00f3 el inter\u00e9s de NAC), he dividido el tablero en dos zonas: la <strong>zona central<\/strong> (mapa de Espa\u00f1a) y la <strong>zona exterior<\/strong> (medidores y cajas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En esta entrada, hablar\u00e9 de la zona central, del mapa de Espa\u00f1a y sus caracter\u00edsticas. Por esa raz\u00f3n, en este mapa he optado por usar los <strong>frentes como una sintetizaci\u00f3n<\/strong> de ambos hechos: uno, que las zonas de actividad eran concretas, m\u00e1s locales que globales, y otro, que hubo suficiente presencia maquis en tantas zonas de diferente tama\u00f1o (aunque fuera por poco tiempo), que es dif\u00edcil demarcarlas en \u00e1reas muy espec\u00edficas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, usando esta ambig\u00fcedad como pretexto, me he permitido extender las \u00ab<strong>fronteras<\/strong>\u00bb de esos frentes, sin otro objetivo que el de facilitar la experiencia del juego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finalmente, he intentado que el mapa contenga de forma sutil esta informaci\u00f3n sobre las zonas de actividad hist\u00f3rica o no: en cada frente, las <strong>zonas hist\u00f3ricamente m\u00e1s precisas<\/strong> est\u00e1n delimitadas con una <strong>l\u00ednea s\u00f3lida<\/strong> y un color m\u00e1s saturado, mientras que las <strong>zonas deliberadamente extendidas<\/strong> por m\u00ed presentan un color mas suave y se delimitan por una <strong>l\u00ednea rayada<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"956\" height=\"716\" src=\"https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9687\" style=\"width:526px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio.png 956w, https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio-768x575.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 956px) 100vw, 956px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Detalle del mapa para mostrar un ejemplo de las \u00e1reas hist\u00f3ricas de actividad maquis y la extensi\u00f3n de los frentes definidos para el juego. La flecha amarilla delimita con una l\u00ednea rayada hasta d\u00f3nde ha sido extendido este frente para mejorar la jugabilidad.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em><strong>Entonces, \u00bfcu\u00e1l es la funci\u00f3n de los frentes?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En Guerrilleros, estos frentes son una aproximaci\u00f3n geogr\u00e1fica francamente conveniente para ofrecer jugabilidad y a\u00f1adir la componente \u00ablocal\u00bb de las actividades de las diferentes <strong>Agrupaciones Guerrilleras<\/strong> (abreviadas AG) &#8211; componente totalmente irrelevante para el R\u00e9gimen, que la puede (\u00a1y debe!) ignorar salvo excepciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En pocas palabras, los frentes representan zonas del mapa que comparten una serie de <strong>propiedades <\/strong>y <strong>caracter\u00edsticas <\/strong>que afectan principalmente al bando del Maquis y que enumero a continuaci\u00f3n:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DESPLIEGUE DE BLOQUES<\/strong>. Las partidas de las AG Maquis de cada zona de Espa\u00f1a se <strong>despliegan <\/strong>en su respectivo frente (se indica en cada bloque): las del norte de Espa\u00f1a se despliegan en el Frente Norte, as\u00ed como las del Central y del Sur en sus respectivo frentes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PAR\u00c1METROS COMUNES<\/strong>. Hay ciertos par\u00e1metros que est\u00e1n abstra\u00eddos y colectivizados, como son los <strong><em>Recursos <\/em><\/strong>o el <strong><em>Armamento<\/em><\/strong><em>, <\/em>disponibles y compartidos por todas las partidas Maquis del frente. Estos par\u00e1metros pretenden representar de forma promediada la capacidad log\u00edstica y militar de las AG y partidas del frente, y no pretenden sugerir que hubiera una gran infraestructura log\u00edstica o armament\u00edstica com\u00fan para grandes \u00e1reas, mucho menos del tama\u00f1o de un frente. Simplemente aglomeran las menguantes capacidades de las partidas Maquis a lo largo del tiempo. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MANIOBRAS<\/strong>. A la hora de jugar <strong><em>Cartas de Maniobra<\/em><\/strong>, mec\u00e1nica principal del juego, se pueden asignar maniobras a cada frente, para resolverlas posteriormente.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>POSIBLE CONDICI\u00d3N DE VICTORIA DEL R\u00c9GIMEN<\/strong>. Los frentes adem\u00e1s constituyen elementos estrat\u00e9gicos para el bando del R\u00e9gimen que puede ganar la partida si consigue eliminar el \u00faltimo bloque del Maquis en dos de los tres frentes principales.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Falta por comentar un frente m\u00e1s, el Pirenaico. Tras ello, decribir\u00e9 los tipos de casillas de los frentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\"><strong>FRENTE<\/strong> <strong>TEMPORAL<\/strong>: <strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">PIRENAICO<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La naturaleza del Frente Pirenaico es especial o, mejor dicho, \u00ab<strong>temporal<\/strong>\u00ab. La apertura de este frente ocurre si se lleva a cabo la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Invasi%C3%B3n_del_Valle_de_Ar%C3%A1n\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invasi\u00f3n de la Vall d&#8217;Aran<\/a> por parte del Maquis, tambi\u00e9n conocida como \u00ab<em><strong>Operaci\u00f3n Reconquista de Espa\u00f1a<\/strong><\/em>\u00ab. En el juego, esta operaci\u00f3n es usualmente iniciada por el Maquis aunque tambi\u00e9n el R\u00e9gimen puede forzar su detonaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el momento en que esta operaci\u00f3n comienza, el resto de frentes quedan en suspenso y la atenci\u00f3n se centra \u00fanica y exclusivamente en este frente hasta que termine la operaci\u00f3n (tal y como indica el medidor de \u00ab<strong><em>Abandono del Frente Pirenaico<\/em><\/strong>\u00ab). Este par\u00f3n se debe a que la <em>Operaci\u00f3n Reconquista de Espa\u00f1a<\/em> dur\u00f3 apenas unos pocos d\u00edas, del 19 al 24 de Octubre de 1944, y este lapso no encaja con el ritmo temporal de una ronda normal de juego, establecida en 6 meses. Por tanto, durante las siguientes tres rondas (conservando casi toda la estructura de una ronda normal), s\u00f3lo se jugar\u00e1 con las partidas y patrullas del Frente Pirenaico. Cuando este frente se <strong>cierre <\/strong>al final de la \u00faltima ronda del medidor de <strong><em>Abandono<\/em><\/strong>, las partidas que lo hayan abandonado podr\u00e1n seguir jugando en otros frentes y se eliminar\u00e1n las que no lo hayan conseguido. Por su lado, el R\u00e9gimen enviar\u00e1 a la <strong>Reserva<\/strong> las patrullas que hayan sido destinadas al Frente Pirenaico. Por tanto, recalco la cualidad de <em>temporal <\/em>del Frente Pirenaico a la vez que no computable para tales condiciones de victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\"><strong>CASILLAS DEL MAPA<\/strong>: <strong><mark style=\"color:#039900\" class=\"has-inline-color\">\u00c1REAS<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las localizaciones de diferente color y contorno componen las casillas donde se situar\u00e1n las partidas y patrullas del juego. En el juego son llamadas \u00ab<strong>\u00e1reas<\/strong>\u00bb porque representan extensiones de entre 5 y 10 km a la redonda respecto al nombre anotado en la casilla. Las <em>Ofensivas <\/em>(ataques del Maquis para recibir PV) s\u00f3lo pueden realizarse en las casillas que tengan un valor. Estas son todas las ciudades y <em>Viella <\/em>en el Frente Pirenaico. Estas conexiones son transitables por ambos bandos y si bien no representan ning\u00fan camino o carretera concreto, s\u00ed est\u00e1n dispuestos entre \u00e1reas relativamente cercanas. Estas conexiones pueden tener uno o dos <strong>tramos<\/strong>, son <strong>transitables s\u00f3lo por el bando del Maquis<\/strong> y es la \u00fanica forma de que una partida pueda viajar de un frente a otro. Los <strong>tramos<\/strong> de una carretera se definen como la porci\u00f3n de linea entre un \u00e1rea y a) otro \u00e1rea, o b) un nexo de uni\u00f3n de tramos (figura circular de n\u00facleo negro; NO cuenta como \u00e1rea). Cada <strong>tramo<\/strong> de carretera representa una \u00abcasilla\u00bb de la misma, por lo que el bando del Maquis deber\u00e1 gastar puntos de maniobra de forma usual para mover las partidas a trav\u00e9s de cada tramo, hasta llegar al \u00e1rea destino. Por su parte, <strong>el R\u00e9gimen ignora las carreteras<\/strong>. Esto se debe a que, l\u00f3gicamente, ese bando puede mover sus tropas por todo el mapa con mucha mayor libertad. As\u00edmismo, el bando del R\u00e9gimen podr\u00e1 establecer controles o bloqueos en ellas \u00fanicamente durante las rondas en que la Operaci\u00f3n se lleve a cabo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#7d0000\" class=\"has-inline-color\">OMISIONES EN EL MAPA<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No he recibido ning\u00fan comentario a este respecto pero me apetece abordar este tema con claridad y antes e que nadie malentienda nada al respecto: el juego no contiene <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">todo<\/span> el saber, hechos, lugares o elementos de la guerrilla. Y eso est\u00e1 bien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Algunos p\u00e1rrafos arriba mencionaba mi decisi\u00f3n de aglutinar las diferentes \u00e1reas de actividad de la guerrilla en los que he llamado Frentes Norte, Central, Sur y Pirenaico para favorecer la jugabilidad. Con esta decisi\u00f3n soy consciente de que <strong>he dejado fuera<\/strong> de esas fronteras numerosos lugares en los que hubo presencia y actividad del Maquis, independientemente de su intensidad o extensi\u00f3n: archipi\u00e9lagos balear y canario, zonas del interior o de las costas con actividad m\u00e1s localizada, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detr\u00e1s de la decisi\u00f3n de omitir lugares donde pudo haber o hubo con certeza actividad de la guerrilla <strong>no hay ninguna intenci\u00f3n<\/strong> m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de de la de establecer l\u00edmites al juego &#8211; como cualquier otro. Por tanto, tales omisiones carecen de cualquier matiz geogr\u00e1fico, ideol\u00f3gico o de cualquier otro tipo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En pocas palabras, <strong>el dise\u00f1o dicta sus propias limitaciones<\/strong> (\u00a1y eso est\u00e1 bien!). Algunas pueden solventarse pero otras requieren ser sacrificadas. El dise\u00f1o que tengo entre manos me impide llegar a un nivel de exhaustividad hist\u00f3rica que abarque <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">toda<\/span> presencia del Maquis en Espa\u00f1a. A cambio, estoy intentando ofrecer un juego funcional, sint\u00e9tico pero con profundidad hist\u00f3rica, que considero divertido y MUY abierto para conseguir una alta rejugabilidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por tanto, querido lector, si he olvidado la experiencia de tu pueblo o aldea, la de tus antepasados o conocidos, no me cuesta nada decirte que lo lamento, si bien no ha sido algo deliberado hacia ellos. A cambio, te puedo confirmar, con el coraz\u00f3n en la mano, que este juego pretende honrar la memoria hist\u00f3rica de todos aquellos que participaron en este desgraciado y desesperado episodio de nuestra historia reciente, est\u00e9n o no reflejados en el mapa o cartas. Espero que as\u00ed lo entiendas t\u00fa y todo el que juegue a Guerrilleros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Optimizaci\u00f3n a lo largo de las versiones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta versi\u00f3n 4.0 del tablero es el resultado de muchas, muchas horas delante del mismo. Todo empieza con ideas. Personalmente me dejo llevar por lo que quiero ver en \u00e9l, las cosas que creo que transportan el peso de lo que quiero contar, y lo hacen en un principio sin m\u00e1s gu\u00eda que un \u00ab<em>A ver, por ejemplo esto aqu\u00ed, y esto all\u00e1&#8230; s\u00ed, m\u00e1s o menos<\/em>\u00ab. Poco a poco, esa improvisaci\u00f3n va dejando paso a un ajuste grueso, que cercena partes del mismo y a\u00f1ade otras que suplantan sin escr\u00fapulos lo que en un principio parec\u00eda inamovible. Finalmente, cuando uno ya tiene el concepto bien definido y el cuerpo del juego es robusto, llega el ajuste fino de todas las variables: elegir est\u00e9tica, hacer cuentas, equiparar tipos, equilibrar n\u00fameros&#8230; Obviamente mi prototipo no cumple las leyes fundamentales del dise\u00f1o gr\u00e1fico m\u00e1s chapucero, pero detr\u00e1s de una cara sucia y barata, est\u00e1 la maquinaria que espero que un buen dise\u00f1ador o dise\u00f1adora consigan plasmar con su arte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dejo aqu\u00ed una muestra de la evoluci\u00f3n que ha seguido el mapa, el tablero y el concepto. Creo que es bonito ver el desarrollo de un dise\u00f1o, c\u00f3mo va mutando, reconduci\u00e9ndose, tomando y soltando, para poder tomar perspectiva del trabajo que hay Spain. In this entry I will describe the central area of the game board. That is, the map, its structures, its omissions and its optimization along the iterations it is undergoing as I develop the game. The design I show below is provisional and clearly improvable. However, for the purposes of this (long) stage of game development and testing in which I am immersed, I think it is sufficiently <strong>functional <\/strong>as it contains all the essentials. I must also add that for its final design, a good graphic designer will improve it by several orders of magnitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this version (number 4.0, far from the initial concepts and the one NAC got interested in), I have divided the board into two areas: the <strong>central area<\/strong> (map of Spain) and the <strong>outer area<\/strong> (tracks and boxes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this entry, I will talk about the <strong>central area<\/strong>, the map of Spain and its characteristics. For that reason, in this map I have chosen to use the <strong>fronts as a synthesis<\/strong> of both facts: one, that the areas of activity were concrete, more local than global, and two, that there was enough Maquis presence in so many areas of different sizes (even if only for a short time) that it is difficult to demarcate them into very specific areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, using this ambiguity as a pretext, I have allowed myself to extend the \u2018<strong>borders<\/strong>\u2019 of these fronts, with no other objective than to facilitate the experience of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, I have tried to make the map subtly contain the information of historical and non-historical activity zones: on each front, the <strong>historically accurate areas<\/strong> are delimited by a <strong>solid line<\/strong> and a more saturated colour, while the <strong>areas deliberately extended<\/strong> by me have a softer colour and are delimited by a <strong>dashed line<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"956\" height=\"716\" src=\"https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9687\" style=\"width:526px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio.png 956w, https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/gue_Fhistorio-768x575.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 956px) 100vw, 956px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Detail of the map to show an example of the historical areas of Maquis activity and the extent of the fronts defined for the game. The yellow arrow marks with a dashed line the extension of this front, made to improve gameplay.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em><strong>Then, what is the role of the fronts?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Guerrilleros, these fronts are a convenient geographical approximation to improve gameplay and add the \u2018local\u2019 component of the activities of the different <strong>Agrupaciones Guerrilleras<\/strong> (guerrilla groups, abbreviated as AG). The fronts are irrelevant to the Regime, which can (and should!) ignore it except for a few points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, the fronts represent the zones in the map that share several <strong>properties<\/strong> and <strong>characteristics<\/strong> that mainly affect the Maquis side, and that I list below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>BLOCKS DEPLOYMENT<\/strong>. The Maquis AG parties from each zone of Spain are deployed in their respective front (indicated in each block): those from the North of Spain are deployed in the Northern Front, as well as those from the Central and South in their respective fronts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>COMMON PARAMETERS<\/strong>. There are certain parameters that are abstracted and collectivised, such as <strong><em>Resources <\/em><\/strong>or <strong><em>Armament<\/em><\/strong>, available and shared by all the Maquis parties on the front. These parameters are intended to average the logistical and military capacity of the AG parties of the front, and are not intended to suggest that there was a large common logistical or armament infrastructure for large areas, let alone the size of a front. They simply aggregate the dwindling capabilities of the Maquis parties over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MANOEUVERS<\/strong>. When playing Manoeuver Cards, the main engine of the game, manoeuvers can be assigned to each front, to be resolved later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>POSSIBLE VICTORY CONDITION FOR THE REGIME<\/strong>. The fronts also constitute strategic elements for the Regime side, which can win the game if it manages to eliminate the last Maquis block in two of the three main fronts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pyrenean front will be described next. After that I will describe the types of spaces on the fronts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\"><strong>TEMPORARY FRONT<\/strong>: <strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">PYRENEAN<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nature of the Pyrenean Front is special, or rather \u2018<strong>temporary<\/strong>\u2019. The opening of this front occurs if the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Invasion_of_Val_d%27Aran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maquis invasion of the Vall d&#8217;Aran<\/a>, also known as \u2018Operation Reconquest of Spain\u2019, is carried out. In the game, this operation is usually initiated by the Maquis, although the Regime can also force its detonation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moment this operation begins, all other fronts are put on hold and the attention is exclusively on this temporary front until the operation ends (as indicated by the \u2018<strong>Pyrenean Front Abandonment<\/strong>\u2019 track). This break in the regular game is due to the fact that Operation Reconquest of Spain lasted only a few days, from 19 to 24 October 1944, and this time span does not fit the normal game rounds, set at 6 months each. Therefore, for the next three rounds (while retaining most of the structure of a normal round), only the Maquis <em>partidas <\/em>and Regime patrols of the Pyrenean Front will be used to play. The Pyrenean Front <strong>closes <\/strong>at the end of the last round of the <strong>Abandonement<\/strong> track. Then, the Maquis <em>partidas<\/em> that have successfully left it can continue playing in the rest of the fronts, while those that have not left it will be eliminated. The Regime will recover the patrols of this front by sending them to the <strong>Reserve<\/strong>. Therefore, I <em>stress<\/em> the temporary quality of the Pyrenean Front as well as the fact that it does not count for such victory conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\"><strong>MAP SPACES<\/strong>: <strong><mark style=\"color:#039900\" class=\"has-inline-color\">AREAS<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The different coloured and outlined locations make up the spaces where the game&#8217;s <em>partidas<\/em> and patrols will be placed. In the game they are called \u2018<strong>areas<\/strong>\u2019 because they represent actual areas of between 5 and 10 km radius around the name written on the space. That is, each area should be understood NOT as the location mentioned in it but as the <em>immediate vicinity<\/em> around that place, a variable square km extension around each area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For example<\/em>: \u2018<strong>Dobro<\/strong>\u2019, a rural town in Burgos on the Northern Front, does not refer specifically to the village of Dobro as such, but should be understood as the <strong>vicinity of Dobro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>TYPES OF AREAS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having clarified the scale of the areas, I continue by describing the <strong>types <\/strong>of areas that can be found on all the fronts:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"973\" src=\"https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/casillas-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9709\" style=\"width:434px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/casillas-1.png 922w, https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/casillas-1-284x300.png 284w, https:\/\/edicionesmasqueoca.com\/diarios\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/casillas-1-768x810.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-amber-color\">RURAL POPULATION<\/mark><\/strong> area, in light orange colour, they represent areas around small villages, generally sparse of Maquis relevant actors or geographical areas. In the image: <em>Trujillo<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"color:#3b7da3\" class=\"has-inline-color\">CITY <\/mark><\/strong>area, coloured in blue and with a number representing the city&#8217;s intrinsic Regime forces as well as potential Victory Points. <strong><em>Offensives <\/em><\/strong>(Maquis attacks to relevant city infrastructures to receive VPs) can only be conducted in spaces that have a value, i.e., all cities and <em>Viella<\/em> (Pyrenean Front). In the image above: <em>Sierra de Gata<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"color:#ad1010\" class=\"has-inline-color\">REGIME HEADQUARTERS<\/mark><\/strong> areas, indicated with a red arrow mark containing a white \u2018<strong>C<\/strong>\u2019, present in all cities and some towns. These are the areas where the Regime can deploy patrols from the Reserve. In the image above: <em>C\u00e1ceres<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas with the presence of one or more surrounding fast-flowing <strong><mark style=\"color:#57bfff\" class=\"has-inline-color\">RIVERS<\/mark><\/strong>, indicated with a blue symbol to the top-right of the space. They only affect the movement of the Maquis <em>partidas<\/em>, and can be ignored by the Regime&#8217;s patrols. In the image on the right: <em>Algeciras<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0px\"><strong>CONNECTIONS BETWEEN AREAS AND FRONTS: <mark style=\"color:#6a2c00\" class=\"has-inline-color\">ROADS<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>direct connections between two areas of the same front<\/strong> (<em>adjacent <\/em>areas) are indicated by <strong>dark blue lines<\/strong>. These connections can be used by <strong>both sides<\/strong>. Despite they do not represent any particular path, road or roadway, they are arranged between relatively close areas. These connections can have one or two <strong>sections<\/strong>. They are <strong>passable only by the Maquis<\/strong> side and represent the only suitable way for a Maquis <em>partida<\/em> to travel from one front to the other. <strong>Road sections<\/strong> are defined as the portion of a road between an area and either a) another area, or b) a <strong>nexus<\/strong> (black core circular figure; it does <strong>NOT <\/strong>count as an area but just a road splitting element). Each <strong>road section<\/strong> represents a \u2018space\u2019 on the road, so the Maquis side must spend manoeuvre points just as usual to move the <em>partidas<\/em> across each road section, and until they reach the destination area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In turn, the Regime <strong>ignores the roads<\/strong>. This has an obvious logic behind: the Regime controls the full Spain and its infrastuctures so they can move the patrols around the map unrestrictedly. Likewise, the Regime&#8217;s side will only be able to establish Checkpoints or Roadblocks in them during the rounds in which the Operation is carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><mark style=\"color:#640000\" class=\"has-inline-color\">MAP OMISSIONS<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have not received any comments on this, but I want to address this issue clearly and before anyone misunderstands anything about it: the game does not contain all the knowledge, facts, places or elements of the Spanish guerrilla warfare. <strong>And that is fine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few paragraphs above I mentioned my decision to group the different areas of guerrilla activity into what I have called the Northern, Central, Southern and Pyrenean Fronts in order to favour playability. With this decision in mind, I am aware that I have left out of these borders many places where the Maquis was present and active, regardless of their intensity or extent: Balearic and Canary archipelagos, inland or coastal areas with more localised activity, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Behind the decision to omit places where there could have been or certainly was guerrilla activity there are <strong>no further intentions <\/strong>beyond that of setting limits to the game &#8211; just like any other game. Therefore, such omissions are devoid of any geographical, ideological or any other kind of nuance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, the game design <strong>dictates its own limitations<\/strong> (and that&#8217;s good!). Some of them can be overcome, but others require sacrifices. The path that I am following for the design of Guerrilleros prevents me from reaching a level of historical exhaustiveness that would cover all Maquis presence in Spain. Instead, I am trying to offer a functional game, synthetic but with historical depth, which I consider fun and VERY open to achieve a high replayability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, dear reader, if I have omitted the experience of your town or village, that of your ancestors or acquaintances, I have no issue stating that I am sorry, although it was not deliberate towards any of them. In return, I can confirm, with my hand on my heart, that this game is intended to <strong>honour<\/strong> the historical memory of all those who took part in this unfortunate and desperate episode of our recent history, whether or not they are reflected on the map or charts. I hope that this is how you and everyone else who plays Guerrilleros will understand it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Optimisation across versions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This 4.0 version of the board is the result of many, many hours in front of it. It all starts with ideas. Personally I let myself be carried away by what I want to see on it, the things that I think carry the weight of what I want to express with the game, and this usually happens at first without further guide than \u00ab<em>Let&#8217;s see, for example, this goes here, and this goes there\u2026 yes, more or less<\/em>\u00ab. Step by step, this improvisation gives way to a broad adjustment, which cuts out parts of it and adds others that unscrupulously supplant what at first seemed immovable. Finally, when the concept is well defined and the body of the game is robust, the fine tuning of all the variables arrives: choosing aesthetics, doing math, matching types, balancing numbers&#8230; Obviously my prototype does not comply with the fundamental laws of the most shoddy graphic design, but behind a dirty and cheap face, there is the machinery that I hope a good graphic designer manages to capture with their art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I leave here a sample of the evolution of the map, the full board and the concept behind it. I think it is nice to see the development, how it mutates, how it is re-directed, taking and letting go, to be able to take perspective of the work behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
